Covid update: It's a new day in New York!

Good Wednesday to you all! It is a glorious new day here in NY, as we have reached the 70% vaccinated threshold ahead of schedule!

As you may know, this means that almost all temporary Covid-19 regulations are rolled back immediately. This order comes from Governor Cuomo's office, and covers most businesses and venues, including personal care businesses. And yes, that means Micciche Salon too! Originally, NY had intended to make these moves in July, starting on the first. And that is what our 'full reopening' plan had been based on. So what does this mean, now that we've reached the 70% marker early? Well, a few things.

For starters, we will be moving to 100% capacity immediately. The next time you are in to visit with us, you will notice that our summer display-reset has also seen the addition of more reception area seating. This is something that we have wanted to provide for some time now, as guests have had to mainly stand to wait for their appointment times. No, the reception area still is not at full capacity, but it is definitely much closer to it. We anticipate having that ready to go, complete with brand new seating, in a few weeks. Also, the seating there has 6ft denotation-marks. This is for those who would still like to distance, and make sure they are the fully separated from other chairs.

Speaking of "distancing", "social distancing" is being rolled back as well. Starting immediately, all salon stations will be in use, though there is an asterisk to that. Please note that our lower level is being readied for fully-distanced use (we project completion of that for next week), and dividers are still be available. If you would prefer to have one placed next to you, simply ask and we will accommodate. So while all seats will be used, we can still maintain your separation from other guests, if you wish. We want everyone to feel secure and comfortable during this process, and our clear dividers are readily available! Please note that the dividers between our sinks and at our reception desk are considered permanent for the foreseeable future, and will remain in place.

On top of the above, we are also re-opening appointment times. Though some of our guests may be unaware, we have been scheduling much more time between appointments than we have traditionally. This was in order to allot state-mandated time for cleaning, and will be discontinued as of now. However, please also note that station cleanings will not be discontinued. Each salon station will continue to be outfitted with hand sanitizer and cleaning solution (in the black-topped, clear spray-bottles). The current protocols we are using only require about a minute to be effective for disinfection, so we can still accommodate full cleaning, even with added appointment times. We will be continuing this into the foreseeable future as well.

More to come

As of right now, those are the only safety measures that Micciche Salon will be relaxing. We will still require temperature checks upon entry, be restricting availability of magazines and refreshments, and we will still ask that even the vaccinated mask-up (again, for now).

You are well within your rights to think that is unnecessary, and we completely understand. However we have been attempting to use maximum caution all throughout this pandemic, and it has served us well to this point. We hope you understand our desire to maintain that.

Keep in mind too, that we are looking to keep most additional measures in place only until July 1st. So we do not believe they will be necessary for too much longer. Obviously though, if anything was to cause a reversal of state and city policy, we would be required to comply with any potential new orders.

But even with that unpleasant thought in our minds, this is a great day, undeniably one, and also one that has been a long time coming. We all have been through so much, some more than others, and to see the light at the end of the tunnel getting brighter and brighter is truly a wonderful thing. We cannot wait to get even closer to normalcy here at the shop, and we hope to see you soon!

Thank you for your patience, and thank you for staying with Micciche Salon throughout all of this!

Sincerely,
Jason Micciche
